HISTORY - SHALOM OLD AGE HOME FOR THE DEAF IN WORCESTER

The need for an old age home for the Deaf in Worcester was established quite a few years ago, but NID was not in a financial position which would allow them to address this urgent need.

The elderly Deaf made their voices heard which compelled NID to start with strategic planning for the erection of an old age home for the Deaf on the NID campus. The Lord was good for NID, He heard our prayers and towards the end of 2007, sent a sponsor across our path who made a substantial financial donation towards the building of Shalom old age home for the Deaf.

Since the commencement of the building of Shalom, donors, sponsors and many hearing partners volunteered their products and services either free of charge or at a discounted rate to enable the building of Shalom to continue. NID is grateful to our Heavenly Father who, through His mercy and blessings, today still provides NID with equipment and financial contributions to fully complete and equip Shalom.

The official opening of Shalom old age home for the Deaf took place on Friday, 13 March 2009 and the 1st residents moved in on 15 April 2009. Shalom has already appointed 4 staff members who will handle the care with regard to the elderly Deaf residents.

The whole project regarding Shalom was an act of faith in God which will in future also be the way in which all activities will be undertaken , to ensure that the best possible sustainable support and assistance services are rendered by NID to the elderly Deaf residents.
