CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION

Persons must be Deaf or hearing impaired.
- Persons must be 60 years of age or older.
- Persons must be mentally healthy and not show signs of disturbing behaviour* on admission.
- Persons must provide a doctor’s report (not older than 3 months)
- Residents of Lewensruimte / the Deaf communities (Worcester & Bellville) and the Deaf community of Breederivier will be given preference.
- Person must be have a valid testament and a funeral policy on admission.
- Dependants / family members must sign the contract together with the resident.
- Persons will be approved beforehand by a selection committee.
- Persons must provide financial details and must guarantee that the full rental will be paid monthly.
- Persons must indicate whether or not they will be providing their own furniture.
- Persons must be informed during evaluation with regard to NID values, policy and procedures and house rules.
- Persons will pay a deposit equal to one month’s rental.
*Disturbing behaviour:
The phrase describes conduct and interaction with people and the environment which disturb the peace in the therapeutic community of the elderly and which will derive no benefit from Shalom’s elderly care programme. This includes behaviour which may harm or endanger the safety, health, human dignity and possessions of residents and staff members of Shalom.
