PHILOSOPHY

The Christian-reformed character of Lewensruimte for the Deaf shall be developed and maintained as follows:

  • Residents are admitted irrespective of their religion.

  • Christian norms and ethics shall be maintained in Lewensruimte.

  • The Deaf congregation (Worcester-De la Bat congregation) shall be seen as the spiritual home of residents who wish to integrate.

    No influence or pressure shall be exercised on any person who does not wish to integrate with the congregation.

  • Christian religious meetings will be held regularly.

  • Assembly is held weekly as part of the spiritual development and maintenance programme

  • Lewensruimte makes no provision for any religion other than Christianity.

  • Lewensruimte participates in the activities of the Christian community

  • Attempts to proselytise will not be tolerated.

  • Staff members are expected to respect the Christian ethos and character of Lewensruimte.

  • Residents’ religious beliefs are respected. Staff members must not attempt to convert residents to other religions.

  • Reasonable access will be accorded to members of other religious groups who wish to visit residents who are members of their church / faith.

  • Therapeutic Community

  • Everyone at NID practises the Social Competency Model.
