SWAZILAND VISIT
One of our staff members, mrs Mandie Pienaar, attended the 3rd Africa Workshop of the Africa Contact Group for Mental Health and Deafness in Swaziland. Deaf delegates from 39 African countries attended. It was a wonderful experience for her.

VALENTINE’S DAY MONDAY, 14 FEBRUARY
The housemothers and leaders from Lewensruimte decided to do something different with Valentine’s Day this year. In previous years, a dance or fashion show was held, after which a mister and miss Lewensruimte were chosen.

STUDENTS FROM AUSTRIA
Five Deaf students from Austria are currently visiting Lewensruimte to see and experience more about visual communication. They arrived on 25 January and will be with us until 25 February when they will return home.

NEW ADMISSIONS FOR 2011
Since the beginning of the year we have had 3 new admissions, one as resident and the other two as daycare clients. All three were approved by our Selection Committee.

Spring Tea - Martha's Tea Garden

TALENTSHOW 2010
Lewensruimte attended the International day of celebration for Families on 15 May 2010. The Family Expo was held at Kleinplasie, Worcester and attended by people from the Breederiver District. These global events serve to remind us of the fundamental and central role the family plays in society.

FETE 2010
On Saturday 8 May 2010, our Deafblind residents together with those of the National Institute for the Blind (NIB) were treated to an outing by Worcester’s Lions Club. Each Deafblind person was escorted by an attendant who helped him/her and also acted as interpreter.

MR AND MISS LEWENSRUIMTE 2010
Our Head visited Deaf communities and instances in Germany during April 2010. The purpose was to go and see how Lewensruimte compares to similar instances in Germany. Visits were made to Klinik Erlange, Regens Wagner Foundation and Herbert Feuchte Stiftungsverbund.
