The National Institute for the Deaf (NID) is a dynamic, non-profit organisation and the only facility in South Africa and Africa that provides the full continuum of services to the Deaf from the cradle to the grave. For centuries the outcry of Deaf people all over the world has been "We can do anything but hear, so treat us as ‘normal’ human beings." This outcry led to the establishment of the Institute for the Deaf in 1881 in Worcester. NID is one of the oldest and largest constituency organisations and resource centres safeguarding and promoting the interests, human rights and wellbeing of Deaf people throughout South Africa and Africa. |
