Festival of Light - Press Release
07 Desember 2009
The festive season was rung in with sparkling lights and other delights along a special route set up at the National Institute for the Deaf (NID) campus in Worcester.
From December 3 to 6 people enjoyed the display of lights that reminded them of the birth of Jesus Christ. “It was lovely to be able to enjoy the lights, food and laughter with our family and friends in a safe and secure environment” said one of the people who visited the Deaf’s Festival of Lights. People also had a meal at the NID Tea Garden which had an atmosphere of joy and peace. The lights that were used to decorate the Tea Garden enhanced the spirit of celebrating His birth.
On the Sunday 6th at 20:00 all gathered around when it was time for the deaf-friendly carols by candlelight. The sound of joy could be heard from afar!
According to Mr Deon de Villiers, Executive Director of the NID, this initiative is not only to raise awareness of the Deaf or to gather funds for this non-profit organisation, but to spread the message of Christ’s birth in a joyful manner.
The planning for the Deaf’s Festival of Light 2010 is already in process.
