AREAS OF MINISTRY

We minister to all Deaf people in the Western Cape in Sign language and in a Deaf friendly language. We have 270 members of which 252 are Deaf, and 18 hearing, all maried to Deaf members, or serving in a professional capacity, such as minister, social worker, secretary or interpretor.

We also have a number of Deaf-blind members, each with their own interpretors, and we provide mounted TV screens for the few visual impaired members that can see enough to follow the signs and sermon by means of electronical aid. The visually impaired Deaf are being accomodated in our normal services, but we do have specialised services for them as well.

We have built an old age home for the Deaf where mere than 40 elderly Deaf are being looked after, with a frale care devision with full time medical staff attending to them. Bible studies are being held weekly, and transport is available for all that attend church services.

Our youth group (30) is active and they frequently assemble for Bible studies, youth sermons, reach outs and ministering to the Deaf pupils from the schools for the Deaf. They organise campes, sporting events and social evenings.

Our congregation is involved with the theological seminary for the Deaf where we started to train Deaf people to become ministers and pastors for the Deaf where they will be able to communicate in their own Sign language to Deaf people from their own culture.
