VACANCY: HEAD / PRINCIPAL NID COLLEGE

The National Institute for the Deaf (NID) in Worcester, Western Cape is inviting persons to apply for the vacant post of Head / Principal: NID College, Worcester. Employment Equity (EE) Legislation will apply.

Requirements to qualify for this post are as follows:

  • In possession of an appropriately recognised Bachelor’s Degree in Education and/or Management.
  • A minimum of three years experience in a senior management position.
  • Educational and or occupational training background.
  • Good people skills / relations are very important in order to raise awareness of the human rights, in line with the UN Convention (Art. 8).

To perform successfully in this post you will need the ability to manage multiple projects, maintain confidentiality and work effectively under pressure whilst maintaining a professional image. In addition, you should have extensive management experience, exceptional ability to innovate through vision, drive and strong leadership skills. Applicants must have good communication, co-ordinating and liaison skills in order to play a key role in inspiring, empowering and interacting with the National Institute for the Deaf (NID), its’ CEO and heads of NID-Departments, NID College managers, facilitators, personnel, hostel parents, Deaf students, their parents and family members

Requirements:
Your competency profile should include strong advanced skills and a thorough knowledge of and experience in:

  • Working with the Deaf or persons with disabilities
  • College and hostel management
  • Deaf and hard of hearing culture,
  • Handling of Deaf, hard of hearing and persons with disabilities
  • Innovative and creative financial skills,
  • Operational and capital budgeting,
  • Occupational training for the Deaf
  • Sign Language, speech reading and lip speaking
  • Disability matters in various Seta’s,
  • Government disability grant opportunities,
  • Marketing, organisation, strategy and implementation skills,
  • Decision making, problem and conflict solving abilities,
  • Execution of disciplinarily hearings,
  • Writing and presentation of relevant proposals,
  • Extensive computer skills
  • Working under pressure and meeting deadlines

The successful candidate will be appointed as the Head / Principal of NID College. He/She will provide management and leadership as well as high-level strategic direction for NID College in all its operational facets: candidate must be responsive to the policies of the NID, its’ vision, mission and values. The successful candidate will be responsible for the residential care of students and will be obliged to reside on campus.
