NID COLLEGE SPORT 2010

Training, development and empowerment are the key words. All three together lead to equal access and equal opportunities for all NID College students at Worcester Western Cape South Africa.

Mission
The NID College Sports body aims to promote sports development and deaf awareness by creating opportunities and possibilities for involvement of the deaf in local, provincial, national and international sporting competitions. It further aims to empower deaf individuals to gain equal access to all sport codes and sport-related professions.

Vision
The NID sports body aims to develop deaf sports stars from the grassroots level to professional athletes (or coaches), by providing them with the knowledge, skills, confidence and experience. Our aim is then that athletes will be enabled to compete in a wider verity of competitions thereby increasing the potential for international representation and becoming sports ambassadors for their respective provinces and codes.

Objectives & Goals

• Establishing closer working relationships with affiliated sports & sponsoring bodies.
• Participation in local, provincial, national and international events.
• Promotion and awareness campaigns for deafness.
• Competing on an equal basis with the hearing/”able body” sports sectors.
• Identifying and supplying other provinces with representatives for competition
• Identify and supply the government sports body with competitive athletes
• In-training with sponsoring companies on deaf awareness

Management
The NID College shall form a management committee responsible for overall management of the project, including coordination, monitoring and supervision. The management committee shall be responsible for submission of progress and statistical reports as well as audited financial reports to sponsored companies or project donors.

Summery
The NID College shall deliver direct services to individuals involved in deaf sports; with special emphasis on young and adults who have historically not had an opportunity to compete in any higher levels of competition.
